Susana Balbo Wines is in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo. Susana Balbo spent over 20 years as a consultant winemaker before founding Dominio del Plata in 1999. She was the first woman to graduate as a winemaker in Argentina, and the wines she built here reflect decades of technical knowledge.
The winery produces several lines: Susana Balbo Signature is the premium range, Crios is the entry level, and Ben Marco sits in between. Her Torrontés is one of the best in the country. The reds, mostly Malbec and Cabernet, are consistent and well-structured.
Today her children run much of the daily operation. José, who studied winemaking at UC Davis, handles the cellar. Ana manages the business side. It’s still a family operation despite the scale.
The winery has a restaurant, Osadía de Crear, which was recognized by the Michelin Guide. Lunch there with wine pairing is one of the better dining experiences in the Luján de Cuyo area. Reservations are recommended.
We include Susana Balbo in our Luján de Cuyo wine tours, often combined with Bodega Vistalba and a third winery in the area.
