Mendel is at Terrada 1863, Mayor Drummond, Luján de Cuyo. The winery was built around the partnership between Roberto de la Mota, one of Argentina’s most respected winemakers, and the Sielecki family. De la Mota brings the winemaking expertise. The family brings old vineyards and long-term commitment.
The focus is on Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon from old vines in Luján de Cuyo. Their Mendel Malbec and Finca Remota are the top wines. The style is structured and age-worthy, more restrained than the ripe, fruit-heavy Malbecs you find elsewhere.
The winery itself is not flashy. It’s a working cellar where the attention goes to the wine, not the visitor center. That said, tastings are available by appointment and the experience is personal and informative.
Mayor Drummond is close to Chacras de Coria, about 20 minutes from Mendoza city. We include Mendel in our Luján de Cuyo wine tours.
