Benegas is at Carril Aráoz al 1600, Mayor Drummond, Luján de Cuyo. The building dates from the late 1800s and still has its original underground cellar, which is one of the more impressive things to see during a visit. Stone walls, old casks, and the kind of atmosphere you don’t get at the newer wineries.
The Benegas family restored Finca Libertad, their estate vineyard, and all their current wines come from those vines. The grapes are Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and a few smaller lots. Their wines tend toward a more traditional, structured style rather than the fruit-forward approach you see at many modern Mendoza wineries.
The visit covers the historic building and the cellar, followed by a tasting. It’s not a large-scale tourism operation, so you get more time and attention. Good for people who want to see a working piece of Mendoza’s wine history rather than a modern showroom.
Mayor Drummond is a short drive south of Chacras de Coria. We include Benegas in our Luján de Cuyo wine tours.
