Chandon Argentina is on RP 15, km 29, in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo. The French house Moët & Chandon set up here in 1959, making it one of the earliest foreign investments in Mendoza wine. They came because the conditions for sparkling wine production were right: dry air, big temperature swings between day and night, and good Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards.
The focus is sparkling wine, and they produce a wide range. Baron B is their top cuvée. The Chandon Brut Nature and Extra Brut are the most popular. They also make a few still wines, but the sparklings are the reason to visit.
The winery is large and well set up for visitors. The tour covers the traditional method production, from grape to bottle, and ends with a tasting. There’s a terrace with vineyard views where you can sit with a glass. It’s a polished experience, well suited for people who want to understand how serious sparkling wine is made outside of Champagne.
