El Enemigo

Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena’s project in Maipú. Wines inspired by the era of European immigrants in Argentina.

About This Winery

El Enemigo is at Videla Aranda 7008, Maipú. The name means “the enemy” and refers to the internal battle, the one you fight with yourself, which the founders see as the one that defines you. It’s a project between Alejandro Vigil, one of Argentina’s top winemakers, and Adrianna Catena.

The wines look back to the style of early European immigrants in Argentina. They’re less about modern fruit extraction and more about restraint, balance and aging potential. The El Enemigo Malbec is their core wine, and the Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard line represents specific plots across Mendoza. The Chardonnay and Bonarda are also worth trying.

The winery in Maipú is where much of the production happens. Visits are available by appointment. The conversation around the wines tends to go deeper into history and philosophy than at most other wineries.

Maipú is about 20 minutes from Mendoza city. We include El Enemigo in our Maipú wine tours.
