CarinaE is at Videla Aranda 2899, Cruz de Piedra, Maipú. It’s run by Brigitte and Philippe Subra, a French couple who came to Mendoza and started what was meant to be a small family project. It grew into something more. Their recent vintages, mostly Malbec with smaller amounts of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, have been getting attention well beyond what you’d expect from a winery this size.
The atmosphere is informal and welcoming. Philippe usually leads the visits himself, and you get the sense that every bottle is personal to them. It’s about as far from a corporate winery experience as you can get in Mendoza.
Production is limited, so the wines aren’t widely available. Visiting the winery is the best way to try them. Cruz de Piedra is in the Maipú wine region, about 25 minutes from Mendoza city.
We include CarinaE in our Maipú wine tours.
