Salentein is on RP 89, Los Árboles, Tunuyán, at over 1,200 meters above sea level. The winery was founded in the late 1990s and played a major role in putting the Uco Valley on the map, both for its wines and for its architecture.
The building is designed as a cross, with four wings meeting at a central underground cellar. It’s surrounded by vineyards and native flora, and the setting is hard to beat. On the property there’s also the Killka art gallery, a small chapel, and the Killka restaurant. Posada Salentein, a lodge nearby, offers rooms if you want to stay the night at the foot of the Andes.
Their wines are well known: Salentein Reserve and Numina are the most distributed. The Primus Malbec is their top label. Quality is consistent across the range, and the high altitude shows in the freshness and acidity of the reds.
Los Árboles is about 90 minutes from Mendoza city. We include Salentein in our Uco Valley wine tours. It’s often one of the main stops because the visit covers wine, food, art and landscape in one place.
