Piedra Negra is on RP 94, km 21, in Vista Flores, Tunuyán. The winery belongs to François and Jacques Lurton, sons of a well-known Bordeaux wine family who have projects around the world. Their Uco Valley operation is built with wood, concrete and stainless steel, and it blends into the landscape.
The wines reflect the high altitude of Vista Flores, around 1,100 meters. Their Pinot Gris is considered one of the best in South America, and it’s not a variety you see much in Mendoza. The Malbec is clean and mineral-driven, different from the softer, fruit-forward styles of Luján de Cuyo.
It’s a relatively small winery with a calm setting. The Uco Valley is quieter than Luján de Cuyo in terms of tourist traffic, and Piedra Negra is a good example of the more laid-back experience you get out here.
Vista Flores is about 90 minutes from Mendoza city. We include Piedra Negra in our Uco Valley wine tours.
